final project narrows?
with the green light of the “head” theme given, i find myself excited and nervous. excited to begin a new project with my themes and yet nervous to excel and live up to my own expectations. its not an excuse (however saying “its not an excuse” really makes it an excuse) but i will have to remind myself this new medium i am using is new to me and frustration will be part and necessary for the growth aspect of this project and in general my art.
here is a final rundown (presently) of my project: although i generally do not create heads of identifiable people, i am going to start out with a very identifiable person in this piece-ab lincoln from the $5 bill. so i am going to make this a fairly conceptual piece in relationship with politics. there is a lot of turmoil right now in our nation with the war, gas, economy, etc. so i wanted a famous president (maybe not the most liked or well respected, but a president nonetheless.) i also wanted to chose a figure who was/is seen as being passionate about whatever they represent however they can’t speak, listen, or see much of what is going on with the world. other ideas i tossed around were soldiers or a famous work of art (like the mona lisa.) basically i chose to start with a recognizable image because i don’t want to draw one with the media i am using…i want to use the media i am using as best possible.
so the head will be ab lincoln but it will be a series of 3 images and each image will be altered differently. again, this may go back to political, but i will apply the theme of “hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil.” the application of each “evil” in each of the 3 images will evoke my own personal style in that i will attempt to create interesting/spooky/uneasy additions to each face. i am also going to keep referring and attempt to get inspiration from the art work of david ho, craig marshall smith, and francis bacon as well as myself. i am excited. but who knows…this is just a start.

I like the idea of politics being associated with evil. I also like that you are using money to associate evil. I think it can be for sure sometimes. I’ve heard a saying like money is the root of all evil so you concept does make sense in using it to portray evil. I dont have much to add as far as developement of your idea but I would like to be helpful with my comments. I remember in class Molly telling me to fully develope on element instead of doing to much and the final looking rushed. I think other students agreed and so did I
While doing your project consider keeping it focused to your three hear, see and speak no evil. You could also do a short paragraph on the background of the hear, see and speak no evil. Did it come from the Bible or an old folk tale?
